AB Baby...
SHAKE A LEG: With Aishwariya Rai in Bunty Aur Bubbly.

Abhishek had turned the script around. With his confidence back, he stood the frame with Amitabh in Sarkar, burned the screen with Rani Mukherjee in Bunty Aur Bubbly and finally sizzled the senses out of the fairer sex with his pelvic jig in Dus Bahane. Each of these films has set the cash registers ringing.
As for his acting abilities, the word is out that he wasn’t so bad after all. In LoC he played the role of Kargil hero Captain Vikram Batra, which was a worthwhile experience for him. Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost failed to create any ripples but still Abhishek stands by it. Critics said the film needed improvement in the script department, but his role in the film was appreciated.

Abhishek has inherited the charm of his father. He is the same six-foot frame looming large, the same quick wit, the same endearing charm, which can draw anyone closer, and the same Amitabh-like aloofness, which makes someone retrace a few steps.

“As an actor I’m very excited and always nervous before the release of my film. Living up to expectations is not easy. I just work hard for at the end of the day you do want to entertain the audiences. But after so many releases I’ve also realised that you have to do your best, give your best shot and then leave the rest to God,” says Abhishek.

To be sure, he is of the manner born. “My earliest memory of the Filmfare Awards is that of one I attended at the age of 11. My father had a special tuxedo made for me because it was the first ever film function I attended. As children we were not taken to any film functions but this was an exception. I remember it was held at the Centaur Hotel and there was a special platform erected over the pool for the nominees. At the end of the function, a crowd of fans rushed to meet the stars and the whole platform came crashing down. Amidst all that chaos, I promised myself that one day I’d go up there and take one of those ladies back home with me. Ever since I became an actor, I’ve been going back from the awards function holding one of my parents’ trophies. This time round, it was wonderful walking away with one of my own,” says Abhishek.

What’s surprising is that Amy baby is not just notching up those Bollywood hits, he’s emerging as a brand. Riding on his success, Ford Motor has signed up Abhishek to promote the company’s latest sedan, the Fiesta. It is not the first time that the star will promote a car, but it is certainly the first time the star is recognised for being Abhishek and not just a Bachchan.
