Bharatvanshi Gaurav Samman

The 5th Bharatvanshi Gaurav Samman-2008 was conferred to Shivnath Rai Bajaj of Thailand by Sushma Swaraj, Leader of Opposition, Lok Sabha, at a colourful ceremony held at Malviya Smriti Bhawan, New Delhi, on January 10, 2010. The award has been constituted by Antar-Rashtriya Sahayog Nyas (Trust for International Co-operation) and consists of a citation, a shawl, a memento and rupees one lakh. The award publicly honours a person every year for excellence and working for Indian Diaspora. Shivnath Rai Bajaj could not come as he was hospitalized and in his absence his son, Subhash Bajaj received the award.

Swaraj praised the role of ARSP in maintaining close contacts with Indian Diaspora under the able guidance of its Secretary General Baleshwar Agrawal. She also recalled the love for India in the hearts of PIOs by narrating how in earlier times they put flowers in the sea thinking that at least at a later date they would touch the shore of India. She also praised the achievement of people of Indian origin for making outstanding contribution to the progress of the country of their domicile.
