Let’s look at the statistics first. Persons of India Origin (PIOs) make up about 7 per cent of Malaysia’s population. But the number of doctors of Indian origin in Malaysia makes up over 28.4 per cent of the entire professional medical doctors’ population in Malaysia. This is a very significant piece of statistic and a complete reflection on how Indians do set high educational and career standards worldwide that are difficult to match. In the USA too Indian doctors stand out. The Indian population in the USA is just about 1 per cent of the total. The population of Indian doctors in the doctors’ profession is more than 5 per cent. They also account for nearly a fifth of international medical graduates employed in the US workforce.
On the cover is Tan Sri Datuk Dr Mohan Swami, a graduate of medicine from Mysore University. Apart from outstanding academic, entrepreneurial and leadership record, Dr Swami is also spiritually evolved. His life’s philosophy is simple—to live in this world, and yet be above it. He attributes his higher consciousness to his Master, Holiness Swami Rama who he met in the Himalayas. He is the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Perdana University that has turned into a centre of excellence. Together with the Johns Hopkins University, he has established the Johns Hopkins Dr Mohan Swami Institute of International Medical Education
(SIIME).
