“Indian diaspora in Botswana plays important role in strengthening ties”

India and Botswana have exchanged a number of High-Level visits in order to advance the strategic interests of both countries...

What is volume of exports from Botswana to India and vice versa?

As of 2015, Botswana’s exports to India were valued at more than US$ 1 billion mainly in mining sector and exports from India for the same period stood at more than US$ 40 million. Outside the diamond trade, India enjoys trade surplus with Botswana. There are therefore more opportunities in exporting goods and services to India.

We understand that Indian chambers have played a proactive role in introducing businesses to Botswana. Please let us know about some of the recent delegations led by chambers to your country?

There have been a significant number of business delegations travelling to and from Botswana in various sectors. Some were led by Governments and others by the private sector. We continue to work closely with Indian chambers of commerce especially CII, Telangana Chamber of Commerce, PHD Chamber, ASSOCHAM and many other state level chambers to promote trade and invest between the two countries.

There is a significant presence of Indian diaspora in Botswana. How do you see it strengthening ties between our two nations?

The Indian diaspora in Botswana plays an important role in strengthening ties between Botswana and India. Most of them are respected members of society in good standing. The Indian diaspora in Botswana is more than 10,000 strong and engages in all business undertakings (see more information here http://www.bitc.co.bw/invest/) from education, agriculture to mining and retailing.
