DELHI GOVERNMENT: CWG 2010

CLEARING THE AIR

Mrs. Sheila Dixit, Chief Minister Delhi

A frenzy was whipped up in Delhi about the role of the Delhi Chief Minister Mrs Sheila Dikshit during the Commonwealth Games 2010. While this is not the first time that contracts awarded during the Games were questioned, it did appear like a concerted effort by opposition parties to corner the CM who has otherwise brought about several refreshing changes to the city over the years. A Media conference held by senior officials at the Comptroller and Auditor General turned bitter. While the
Media claimed that the CAG officials had categorically directed their attack at the CM for procedural lapses during award of the Games contracts, the Delhi Government refuted the allegations. The BJP added fuel to the fire by holding demonstrations, and not until the CAG had clarified its position on the Chief Ministers did things calm down.

Documents available with INDIA EMPIRE show that the CAG did not make statements it is purported to have made. The chart below is self-explanatory.
