AAI’S 18th annual day celebrations

An Evening To Remember

Airports Authority of India (AAI) known for providing State-of-the-art passenger facilities and services at all the airports in the country celebrated its 18th Annual Day on 1st April 2013. The Annual Day function of AAI was celebrated at Siri Fort Auditorium with full pomp and show. 

The cultural programme like every year included the presentation of awards for the various achievements of the Regions and Airports. Shri K. C. Venugopal, Minister of State for Civil Aviation was the Chief Guest and Shri K. N. Shrivastava, IAS, Secretary (Civil Aviation) was the Guest of Honour in the function. AAI employees were honoured by them for various achievements in their area of work performance and sports. During the function Bollywood singer Shreya Ghoshal with her melodious voice clubbed with tunes of befitting songs swayed the audience and King of Comedy Sudesh Lehri set the mood for the night with his quick witted jokes and hilarious impersonations of various Bollywood celebrities.

The awards were distributed by the chief guest to: 

• Western Region – Excellence in CSR activities.
• Nagpur Airport – Special Achievement Award
• Calicut Airport – Special Achievement Award
• NSCBI Airport – For successfully launching the mega Airport Project
• Chennai Airport – For successfully launching the mega Airport Project

Shri V.P. Agrawal, Chairman, AAI while welcoming the guests of the evening, expressed his happiness that the programme has improved to a professional level and has set a benchmark in itself for conducting such programme by PSUs. He also congratulated the organizers for conducting the event in a professional manner.

Speaking on the occasion Mrs. Archana Agrawal, President Kalyanmayee, the AAI Women Welfare Association, applauded the efforts of AAI in professionally conducting such programmes and wished AAI to continue in their endeavours and celebrate their Anniversary Day with such high spirit. She further hoped that the culture inculcated in AAI for conducting such social get togethers to bring employees together to perform well, will continue in the years to come.

Overall the function was a grand success and everyone present enjoyed the evening.
ACHIEVEMENTS AND REPORT OF SPORTS ACTIVITIES IN 2012-13
Involvement in conduct of International Events
• AAI sponsored the chess match played between India & Israel organized by All India Chess Federation at the AAI Officer’s Institute in April 2012.
• AAI sponsored the Category 18 AICF-AAI CUP organized by All India Chess Federation in the AAI Officer’s Institute in December 2012.

Achievements of professional sports persons in National and International events.

BADMINTON
• N Sikki Reddy inducted under AAI Sports Contract Scheme partnering Aparna Balan of Petroleum Sports Promotion Board won the women’s doubles event of the Senior National Badminton Championship held in September, 2012.
• Sumeeth Reddy & Manu Attri inducted under AAI Sports Contract Scheme won the Men’s Doubles event of the Senior National Badminton Championship held in September, 2012.
• K. Nanda Gopal inducted under AAI Sports Contract Scheme was a Semi Finalist of the Men’s Singles Event of the Senior National Badminton Championship held in September, 2012.

BOXING
• Sonia Lathar inducted under AAI Sports Contract Scheme was the winner of the 51-54 KG category in the Senior National Women’s Boxing Championship held in November 2012.

CHESS
• Harika Dronavalli inducted under AAI Sports Contract Scheme won a Bronze Medal in the Women World Individual Championship held in Russia in November 2012. 
• Mary Ann Gomes inducted under AAI Sports Contract Scheme retained the National Premier Women Chess Championship held at Jalgoan in November 2012.

SWIMMING
• Arti Ghorpade was a member of the Maharashtra Women’s Team which won Gold in the 4X200mtr Freestyle Relay, 4X100mtr freestyle Relay and 4X200mt Meadly Relay of the Senior Nationals Aquatic Championship held in October 2012. She also won silver in women’s Individual 100mtr & 200mtr backstroke and bronze in 200 mtr freestyle in the same championship. 

TABLE TENNIS
• Krithwika Sinha Roy inducted under AAI Sports Contract Scheme was the winner of the Youth Girls Singles in the Junior & Youth Table Tennis Championship held at Indore in February 2013. 
• In the same tournament Nikhat Banu & Karnam Spoorthy won the Youth Girls Double Title 
• T Nitin inducted under Contract Scheme was runner up in the Youth Boys Singles. Partnering Sushmit Sriram he was finalist in the Youth Boys Doubles. 
• Oishwarya Deb & Anuska Dutta won a Bronze Medal in Youth Girls Doubles.
