Firstly, a very Happy New Year to you all.

Personally, it is very satisfying to be writing this. Two reasons: one we are able to bring to you a special issue on the occasion of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2006; second, over the last sixteen months, we have positioned ourselves as the premier diaspora magazine being published every month out of India. We thank all of you for your support.

It’s been our endeavour to bring you stories of the diaspora from across the world. But somehow, we end up bringing you more stories from regions which are strong on NRI population and not the ones with more PIOs.

We would like to request all of you from the PIO regions to keep sending us information, stories, data on our various coordinates so that we can cover you better, and more meaningfully. Please do not forget to visit our website www.indiaempire.com, it has got tremendous traffic from across the world, and it seems to be doubling every month.

On our cover we have Purnendu Chatterjee a man who about a decade ago in deference to his mother’s wishes, defied convention and invested in a unit-in-the-red in West Bengal, turned it around, and over the years has turned into one of the biggest takeover tycoons. He has made it look all very easy, but behind his friendly visage is a brain that ticks all the time, and the ability to out-think most others in the business of buyouts.

On the cover with him is Sushil Bhatia, a man who has made the world sit up and take notice with his decopier. Bhatia has been on every conceivable big and small TV channel in the U.S.A. and is now set to raid corporates and Governments with his classy invention, the Decopier.

We want you to tell us your stories, enabling us to take them to the Diaspora. We believe that the sun now truly does not set on the Indian empire.

What’s your resolution this New Year? Mine is to knit the Diaspora better through the pages of INDIA EMPIRE. Happy reading.
