In the early parts of the 21st century Ashok Reddy was pursuing the Great Indian Dream. A dream that would make India fly high in the world aviation scene. He focused on a proposal to make India's national carriers a part of the Star Alliance, but before that they needed to be merged as one entity. “India’s situation was unique for decades. It had two national carriers, in sharp contrast to the trend world over where countries go for a single national airlines company,” this aviation expert told INDIA EMPIRE. He also worked separately on proposals for a regional air transport association for South Asia, and India's first aviation business school. He translated these dreams into research proposals at the Cranfield University and the Aberdeen Business School in the United Kingdom, while for the aviation school he sent a proposal directly to the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. It helped that he met U.S. Senator John Kerry and his family, who take enormous interest in Indian affairs. We decided to bring the story of Reddy to you because, as it turns out, many small initiatives taken by India’s unsung heroes translate into very big things.

Also in this issue is the pitiable plight of Indian dock workers in southern United States. Nearly 500 of them were promised the moon by unscrupulous manpower exporters, but when they landed up in the Big Apple, they found themselves caught between the proverbial rock and the hard place. Our Consulting Editor Rakesh K. Simha who’’s tracked American affairs very closely brings you a detailed report on how things went wrong.

We also bring to you a beefed up Diaspora segment and investments section.

Happy reading.
