SACHIN PREACHES ‘FAMILY’ VIRTUE

Sachin Tendulkar made an emphatic statement that there was no disunity among the team members following the recent spat between Ganguly and coach Greg Chappell and said the members and coach are “one family” one family and would remain so. “The team (members) and coach (chappell) are together and would remain so though there can be different views. It is like in a family where the members are having different views. But by this, it cannot be said there is no unity in the team,” he stead.

“But the team (member) and Chappell want to win. Only the paths they want to take (in trying to do so) may be different,” Sachin said.
He also declared that his post-elbow surgery rehabilitation process has largely gone as per plans but the still feels some discomfort in the affected joint, which, however, did not prevent him from playing his shots.

A PRINCE AMONG CAPTAINS

Is this the end of the road for Saurav Ganguly, the captain? Is this the end of the road for Saurav Ganguly, the batsman? The answer to both questions is almost certainly yes.
So it’s time for a requiem, a time to remember Saurav Ganguly, the most graceful left-handed batsman India has ever produced. Ganguly at the very top rung of batsmen was worth going miles to see anywhere in the world. When in full flow, no attack could stop him.

He also instinctively found the chink in the opposing captain’s armour as he did with Steve Waugh. Waugh, Ganguly realised, for all his nastiness on the field, was a softie off it. Famously, Saurav Ganguly also stood by his players. Harbhajan, Kaif and Yuvraj went through rough patches, but their captain fought for their retention. No wonder Ganguly became India’s most successful captain with wins against every important cricket country. Ganguly’s loyalty to his young players also meant that players like the wretched Parthiv Patel were retained and lost us matches we should have won. It soon became clear that Ganguly didn’t deserve a place in the team.

NARAIN IN KUALA LUMPUR FOR TREATMENT

Narain Karthikeyan has decided not to go to London for treatment after his Jorden EJ-15 B crashed at the Chinese Formula One Grand Prix in Shanghai.
“I have a tingling sensation in my back so my fitness trainer (Gerad Gray) decided it was better to consult doctors in Kuala Lumpur. I will be seeing the doctors to diagnose why the pain is there,” Narain told. After a high-speed crash Narain was in pain.

“There may be some hyperextension in the region between my neck and lower back, so we thought it was better to get it examined in KL as flying to London would be tiring,” said Narain. Having lost control at close to 250-kmph, and then going into the wall, Narain was knocked out for almost 30 seconds. “The car is a wreck and it’s tough to ascertain what actually caused the crash. I remember turning into Corner 13, which was a fast right-hander. After that, I felt something give into the wall,” recalled Narain.
