This time in our cover story we have focused on Overseas Indians who, buoyed by the success of a cerebral and canny half-black American, have begun to think that they too can aspire some day to the highest office in the USA. World over there are several examples of people of Indian origin who have made it to top offices in their adopted lands. World over, Indian immigrants have fought off discrimination and inequality to aspire, achieve and win acclaim. President-elect Barack Obama’s success has triggered off waves of aspiration among Indian Americans. We talk about what people of Indian origin are saying, and where some PIOs have reached elsewhere in the world.

We also have a story on U.K. based beer baron Karan Billimoria who spoke at the Hindustan Times leadership summit in New Delhi, even while he declared his plans to sell off Cobra Beer, the company that he famously founded in Britain.

We also bring you an analysis of why banks in India have been the biggest gainers as NRIs are looking for safe places to park their earnings. In September alone, they pumped in over a half billion dollars into Indian banks. But all this did not impress one man, Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi who feels that NRIs need to do much more for their mother country.

Just as we were preparing to go to print, came the stunning news about the audacious attack by terrorists in Mumbai. Read our comment, it would be a close reflection, we believe, of how the average Indian feels at this point in history.

Happy reading.
