PBD 2008: BETTER FOCUSED

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in New Delhi was engaging in more ways than one. Not only because the theme for the PBD was about “engaging the diaspora”, but also because innovative new concepts like the OIFC were introduced. Besides, the plenary theme of social development helped focus the diaspora better. As always, states hawked their potential for attracting investments, and NRIs had plenty of answers to seek

THOSE WHO MATTERED: Seen with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are men, and the lady, who mattered at the recent PBD. Some of them led delegations, and others were involved in bringing this huge show together
DIASPORA HOUSE: Finally, the diaspora will have a place of its own in Delhi—the Pravasi Bharatiya Bhavan. PM Manmohan Singh in the company of Mauritian PM N C Ramgoolam, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Minister Vayalar Ravi unveils its model
PAN INDIAN APPROACH: Even though the PBD 2008 is organized by the Central Government, it has a pan Indian approach to meet the aspirations of the diaspora. Seen here (from left) are Kerala CM V.S. Achuthanandan, Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Ravi, Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit and Haryana CM B.S. Hooda

BUSY MARKETPLACE: The exhibiton area at the PBD was well represented, and bustling with NRIs and PIOs looking to do business with India
