By all those who’ve returned recently from Brazil, I’m reminded that it’s an exciting time to be in that Latin American country. The tri-nation meet took place in mid-September there between India, South Africa and Brazil. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, S.A President Thabo Mbeki got together for the south-south cooperation under the India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Dialogue Forum.

The mood among businessmen from India looking to invest in Brazil and also the ones from Brazil that I’ve met in India is clearly bullish. Our cover story this issue focuses on the IBSA and this very buoyant mood. The Indians made their intentions about closer economic and trade ties very clear by sending a large contingent of officials for the IBSA Business Summit. Singh, Mbeki and Lula had a chance to meet business delegations from all three countries. The Summit itself was organized by the Brazilian Confederation of National Industry (CNI) with support from ASSOCHAM, CII and FICCI from India and BUSA from South Africa.

We also bring to you special coverage of two events held in Los Angeles within days of each other in the third week of August. The first took place on the occasion of India’s Independence Day and the second was an US-India business meet involving top decision makers from India and the U.S. There is also a wrap up of the IATO conference attended by over 3,000 people in the Pink City of Jaipur. The conference was conducted well, and the evenings were made regal, and special, thanks to the hospitality of both royalty and the state Government of Rajasthan and the tourism industry. The conference was held to work out modalities that can help provide a huge fillip to tourism infrastructure in India and to lessen the over-burdening taxes on the tour and travel sector. India’s tourist traffic is going up, this year it will become the fourth largest tourist destination in the world.

Also read how Air-India is playing a proactive role in environmental sustainability with its new in-flight movie, Ozzy Ozone. And very soon the mighty Air-India building at Nariman Point, might turn into an environment- friendly “Green Building”. Jet-setting in more ways than one, shall we say.
