LATVIA
NOVEMBER 2025
Although separated by thousands of kilometres, Latvia and India share ancient connections through the Amber Way-a historic trade route that once linked the Baltic amber traders to India. The Latvian language, rooted in the Indo-European family, even bears close resemblance to Sanskrit, underscoring centuries-old cultural resonance.
Diplomatic relations have flourished since the establishment of the Latvian Embassy in New Delhi in 2014 and the Indian Embassy in Riga in 2024. A steady exchange of visits and dialogues continues to strengthen this partnership.
Economic cooperation between the two nations has surged. In 2024, Latvia's total foreign trade turnover with India reached €371.4 million, marking a 67.2% increase over 2023. Exports stood at €58.4 million, up 26.4% from the previous year.

DECEMBER 2016
Latvia offers extraordinary venues for meetings, conferences and events. Indian guests will be impressed by lavish manors in a rural environment, modern concert halls and folklore evenings with local food, singing and dancing. A tapestry of sea, lakes and woods - Latvia is best described as a vast unspoilt parkland with its cosmopolitan capital, Riga. The country might be small but the amount of personal space it provides is enormous. Latvia has been ranked as the 5th best place to travel in 2016 by Lonely Planet!

Moreover, World Bank's recent report ranks Latvia as 22nd out of 189 countries for the ease of doing business. And it is no surprise that on average every fifth tourist visits Latvia specifically for business purposes.

SEPTEMBER 2016
Last year has been a very special one for us-we have opened Latvia's Embassy in New Delhi. It serves as the contact point between the countries, our peoples as well as our business communities who express a genuine interest in expanding cooperation. The numbers of Indian students at Latvian Universities are increasing exponentially and according to latest estimates, have crossed the symbolic mark of 1,000. We engage in an active dialogue and proudly look back at a quarter of a century since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Latvia and India.
