DIPLOMATS TO INDIA EMPIRE
Select The Country:
URUGUAY
JULY 2026
My family's story began with my grandfather, whose parents were among the early Italian immigrants to Uruguay. He studied law at the University of Uruguay before embarking on an extraordinary diplomatic career that took him to Vienna, Brussels, Paris, Geneva and London. He later became Uruguay's Minister of Foreign Affairs, served as Vice President of the Republic and concluded his public career as Ambassador to France.
My father also joined the Foreign Service, serving in Italy, Romania, Bolivia and Paraguay. Although I initially studied architecture, I eventually turned to law, joined Uruguay's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1985 and have had the privilege of representing my country for nearly four decades.

"Uruguay was honoured to participate given the potential Artificial Intelligence has in shaping National priorities, diplomacy, governance and other cross border collaboration. The AI Summit in New Delhi opened new perspectives of cooperation. International Diplomacy has been beneficial from this new modality and Uruguay hopes to develop new forms of dialogue with India in this important matter.
Uruguay has made significant progress in digital transformation, software development, fintech, AI and the promotion of a robust start-up culture. Our country consistently ranks among the leading innovation ecosystems in Latin America, supported by strong institutions, talent development, and forward-looking public policies."

Uruguay and India are two democratic countries. India is the biggest democracy in the World and Uruguay is very well respected for its conduct in International matters. Uruguay has a long standing relationship with India and shares similar democratic values, the defense of International Laws, and the promotion of human rights and non-violence policies. We hope India will be more involved in the Latin American and Caribbean developments to expand trade, investment and culture.
-H.E. Mr Carlos Orlando, Ambassador of Uruguay to India
