Dutch PM Schoof and Jaishankar discuss strategic ties and anti-terrorism stance

The Hague: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof and expressed appreciation for the Netherlands’ strong condemnation of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Delighted to call on PM Dick Schoof today. Conveyed PM Modi’s greetings and thanked him for the Netherlands’ firm stance against terrorism,” Jaishankar posted on X in May.

Schoof reciprocated, saying, “It is good for all parties that violence between India and Pakistan has not escalated further.”

The leaders discussed the India-Netherlands Strategic Partnership, focusing on cooperation in trade, technology, agriculture, and security. Jaishankar’s visit is part of a larger European tour, including stops in Denmark and Germany.

Jaishankar also held talks with Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans and Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp, focusing on security, defence cooperation, and counter-terrorism. The Netherlands’ support for India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism was reaffirmed.

Strategic dialogues with Dutch experts also covered global multipolarity and deepening EU-India engagement.

Dr Jaishankar also praised the Indian diaspora in the Netherlands for their significant role in enhancing bilateral relations during his ongoing official visit. “Interacted with representatives of the Indian community this evening. Value the community’s contribution to building a stronger India-Netherlands relationship,” he posted on X.
