Diaspora Powers Mining

Jaipur: At the Pravasi Rajasthani Divas on December 10, 2025, Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Mr G. Kishan Reddy, emphasised the pivotal role of the Indian diaspora in unlocking India’s mining potential and taking it to global standards.
Rajasthan: Heritage Meets Minerals
The Minister highlighted Rajasthan’s dual identity as a cultural jewel and mining powerhouse. Historically a leader in mineral extraction and technology, the state remains a cornerstone of India’s mineral security, producing and exporting marble, granite, sandstone, and slate.
Mr Reddy pointed out that India’s mining sector thrives on cooperative and competitive federalism, enabling every state to unlock its full potential. Historic reforms—transparent auctions, 100% FDI in exploration, private sector participation, and Ease of Doing Business enhancements—have reshaped the sector’s growth trajectory.
Diaspora Engagement: Concrete Role
Crucially, Mr Reddy urged the diaspora to actively engage in India’s mining initiatives, particularly in Rajasthan. He highlighted institutions like KABIL (Khanij Bidesh India Limited), which acquires critical minerals overseas, providing a direct avenue for the diaspora to invest, share expertise, and strengthen India’s mineral security. “Your energy, vision, and global experience are essential to realise the full potential of India’s mining sector,” he said.
Unlocking Opportunities
The Minister spotlighted the National Critical Minerals Mission, with ?34,300 crore dedicated to self-reliance in critical minerals. For the first time, exploration licenses were auctioned, with seven blocks already allocated to private players. A ?1,500 crore Recycling Scheme is expected to recover 40,000 tonnes of critical minerals annually by 2030.
The coal sector, too, has transformed. Commercial coal mining now drives competition and efficiency, while initiatives in coal gasification, including underground blocks, open new investment avenues for the diaspora and domestic players alike.

Global Vision, Local Impact
Mr Reddy concluded with a call to the global Indian community: to join hands in making Rajasthan a capital of opportunities and India a global mining powerhouse, leveraging their international experience, networks, and capital to directly impact the mining sector.
