Sunny Kulathakal

Every once in a while an individual is born, who by his sheer energy and enthusiasm, shakes up the world and influences thousands of others to wake up, take note and act. Sunny Kulathakal is one such individual. After serving the nation’s leading publications as a journalist and an author, he went on from India to the Middle East and set about co-ordinating activities to help the less fortunate of the NRI and PIO community tide through hard times and benefit from a collaborative awareness of opportunities and solutions. Walking the talk, he uses his acres of land back home in Bangalore and his flagship venture Sunliz Publications, to pursue nature friendly initiatives and employment generating projects. A vibrant personality brimming with positive energy, Sunny and his wife Elizabeth have nurtured Sunliz Publications to the status of an iconic publishing house across the whole of the Middle East

The second coming

In 1984, when English language publications were banned in the Emirates, Sunny moved back to Bangalore and established Sunliz Publications there. But the changing times and the opening up of the Middle East through a host liberalisation initiatives, brought Sunny back to his home away from home, Bahrain.

Crown Prince and the First Deputy Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa lauded the work of Sunny and Elizabeth Kulathakal in producing the Gulf Who’s Who Directory for the past 35 years. He particularly appreciated the part carrying interviews of nearly 200 top dignitaries regarding VISION 2030 of Bahrain. He urged Sunny to update the Directory with views from more people so that the whole world would know that Bahrain is doing its best to help its citizens with long term programs like VISION 2030. In a grand evening meeting during a top level visit, External Affairs Minister H. E. Sheikh Khalid Al Khalifa told at a huge public meeting in Bahrain that Mr. Sunny’s ‘lovely book’ had served the Kingdom of Bahrain very well for the past several years.

Today, based in Bahrain, Sunny is the Executive Vice President of the Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO). In that capacity, he is actively involved in improving the lot of expatriates, not just from the Gulf but the world over.
