PM Modi’s presence at the G7 Summit underscored India’s growing global stature and commitment to multilateral diplomacy
Confirming talks with Germany, MEA Spokesperson Jaiswal posted: “Boosting India-Germany ties! PM @narendramodi and Chancellor Friedrich Merz of Germany held productive talks on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada. Discussions focused on advancing cooperation in IT, innovation, manufacturing, semiconductors, and counter-terrorism.”
Regarding ties with South Korea, Jaiswal shared: “PM @narendramodi met President Mr. Lee Jae-Myung @Jaemyung_Lee of Republic of Korea on the sidelines of the 51st #G7Summit. Both sides reaffirmed commitment to deepen the India-Republic of Korea Special Strategic Partnership—covering trade, emerging technologies, green hydrogen, shipbuilding, culture, and people-to-people ties.”
Deepening India’s outreach in Latin America, PM Modi met with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. Jaiswal posted: “Boosting India-Mexico warm & historical ties. PM @narendramodi met President @Claudiashein of Mexico. This was their first meeting. Discussions included cooperation in trade, pharmaceuticals, science & technology, digital innovation, and Global South priorities.”
PM Modi also interacted with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Sharing the moment, he wrote: “Good to meet my friend, PM Albanese of Australia during the G7 Summit in Canada! @AlboMP.”
Highlighting India’s engagement with the host country, Jaiswal noted: “Building bridges for global progress and cooperation. PM @MarkJCarney of Canada welcomed PM @narendramodi at the #G7 Summit.”
In another key bilateral, PM Modi met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. On social media, he wrote: “Happy to interact with the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa at the G7 Summit. CyrilRamaphosa.”
PM Modi emphasised that he would continue to advocate for the interests of the Global South during the summit. This visit forms part of his official three-nation tour, which began in Cyprus and concluded in Croatia.
In a post on X, PM Modi said: “Landed in Calgary, Canada, to take part in the G7 Summit. Will be meeting various leaders at the Summit and sharing my thoughts on important global issues. Will also be emphasising the priorities of the Global South.”
The G7 Summit is an annual congregation of leaders from the US, UK, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Canada, and the European Union. This marks Prime Minister Modi’s sixth consecutive appearance at the G7.
