Walmart Deepens India Engagement
New Delhi: India remains a key chapter in Walmart’s journey and over the last two decades, we’ve broadened and deepened partnerships in the nation to uplift communities and fuel business growth, said Doug McMillon, President and CEO of Walmart Inc, in June. With several initiatives and programs in India, Walmart is advancing inclusive growth and delivering value to customers, partners, and society by supporting MSMEs, boosting exports, enabling digital payments and financial tools, and encouraging domestic innovation in e-commerce and tech.
“Our teams are crafting customer-centric innovations that are revolutionising retail experiences here and globally. India represents Walmart’s drive to build shared value, and we are honoured to collaborate with partners for a more inclusive and future-ready world,” McMillon shared at a local event.
A major attraction at the event was a curated showcase featuring entrepreneurs, MSMEs, and associates from Walmart-led programs and collaborations.
Kath McLay, President and CEO, Walmart International, also emphasized the powerful role of local innovation and joint ventures. “We are forging enduring partnerships in one of the most dynamic and game-changing markets worldwide. Flipkart Group and PhonePe are building India-first solutions across commerce, payments, logistics and beyond,” McLay stated.
Such innovations increase inclusion and opportunity across India’s diverse landscape, while shaping Walmart’s global strategy for scalable and community-focused growth in other regions. “From empowering MSMEs and enhancing exports to enriching customer journeys, our commitment to India remains strong. We aim to create greater value for more customers, partners and communities in the years ahead,” said McLay.
Walmart has built a significant and evolving footprint in India over the past two decades, spanning digital trade, sourcing, tech, inclusion and grassroots development. The company has helped generate employment while unlocking market access for Indian businesses through its various local and global business platforms.
