Coal Transport Modernised
Government to roll out 102 FMC projects by 2030.
New Delhi: The Ministry of Coal plans 102 first-mile connectivity (FMC) projects by FY30 to modernise coal evacuation, the government told Parliament in August.
Currently, 44 projects with 429.5 MTY capacity are operational, while 58 more will be ready before FY30, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy informed. FMC projects replace truck-based movement with conveyors, silos, and rapid loading systems, reducing pollution, accidents, and transit delays while preserving coal quality.
“The total investment is ?31,367 crore, covering mechanised handling plants, silos, conveyors, and railway sidings,” the minister said.
By FY30, 90 per cent of coal from PSUs will move through FMC. This month, seven coal blocks were auctioned, expected to bring in ?719.9 crore annually and create 7,098 jobs.
