Logistics Sector Booms

India’s logistics set to hit $800 billion by 2030.

Mumbai: India’s logistics sector will be worth $800 billion by 2030, contributing 11 per cent of GDP, according to a new report.

A one per cent cut in logistics cost could save $15 billion annually. Growth is fuelled by digital infrastructure, green policies, workforce skilling, and government initiatives like NLP and PM GatiShakti.

The National Logistics Policy leverages platforms such as ULIP and LDB for real-time tracking. GatiShakti links 57 ministries with 1,700 data layers for faster approvals and multimodal connectivity.

Bharat Trade Net centralises documentation and finance, while GST has cut transit times by a third since 2017.

The sector employs 22 million people, with another 10 million expected by 2027. Logistics parks, multimodal corridors, and digital platforms are enabling SMEs and large firms to go global.

At present, logistics contributes 13–14 per cent of GDP — far higher than the global average of 8–9 per cent.
