Textile Exports Surge

India’s textiles make a strong global statement.

New Delhi: India’s exports of textile products to the USA, the EU, and the UK touched the $20.7 billion mark for the financial year ending March 31, 2025, the Parliament was informed on August 19. The USA and the EU remain vital markets for Indian textiles.

During 2024–25, total textile and apparel exports, including handicrafts, to the US stood at $10.94 billion, while exports to the EU and the UK were $7.6 billion and $2.16 billion, respectively. Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita noted that India has signed an FTA with the UK and is actively negotiating one with the EU.

India’s exports of technical textiles reached ?24,732.68 crore in FY 2024–25, reflecting a 15.53 per cent growth over the previous year, the minister said. He also highlighted that India has concluded 15 Free Trade Agreements, including the recently signed CETA with the UK. These aim to reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers, simplify procedures, and address structural issues to make Indian exporters more competitive.

The government is implementing the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Textiles, with an approved outlay of ?10,683 crore over five years, to promote MMF apparel, MMF fabrics, and technical textiles, enhancing size, scale, and competitiveness.

To boost technical textiles, the National Technical Textiles Mission (2020–21 to 2025–26) was set up with a fund outlay of ?1,480 crore. The government monitors export performance closely and consults with Export Promotion Councils and Industry Associations to strengthen export growth.

Through DGFT, the Advance Authorisation Scheme allows duty-free import of inputs for export production. To enhance competitiveness, the Rebate of State and Central Taxes and Levies (RoSCTL) scheme benefits apparel, garments, and made-ups, while other textile products are supported under the RoDTEP scheme.

The government also extends financial support to Export Promotion Councils and Trade Bodies for trade fairs, exhibitions, and buyer–seller meets at home and abroad. The Textiles Ministry has further supported a Global Mega Textile Event—Bharat TEX 2025—to showcase India’s textiles value chain, highlight industry progress, and position India as the world’s most preferred sourcing and investment hub.
