Chip Dreams Rise

India’s silicon destiny is stirring, with semiconductors now a central pillar of economic ambition and national pride.

New Delhi: Ashok Chandak, President of IESA and SEMI India, declared in August that momentum in semiconductor manufacturing is poised to quicken with the coming ‘SEMICON India 2025’.

He was reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day vow that India is in mission mode on semiconductors, with six plants emerging and four more approved. By 2025, ‘Made in India’ chips will be in the market.

Chandak said semiconductors have moved from a dream to a cornerstone of India’s growth story. He hailed the tireless work of the Semiconductor Mission, MietY, industry, and academia in realising this vision.

Ten projects worth $22 billion are underway, with global CEOs expected at the September 2025 summit. Modi lamented decades of delay when India stalled its semiconductor journey, but vowed to reclaim lost time with urgency.
