Seafood Strategy Spells
The ocean’s bounty may yet transform India’s export story, if value and variety become the watchwords.
New Delhi: Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh said boosting seafood exports requires value addition and state-specific focus.
Speaking at the Seafood Exporters Meet 2025, he highlighted a single-window market linkage, deeper EEZ fishing, and infrastructure upgrades.
Officials urged reducing dependence on Whiteleg shrimp, raising value-added exports from 10 per cent to global benchmarks of 30–60 per cent.
India’s annual fish production has surged 104 per cent in a decade, with inland fisheries now three-quarters of the total.
