Strengthening Bilateral Partnership
India reaffirmed its commitment to deepening ties with Bolivia as Minister of State Pabitra Margherita represented New Delhi at the swearing-in of President Rodrigo Paz Pereira.
LA PAZ: Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita attended the inauguration ceremony of President Rodrigo Paz Pereira on Sunday, conveying greetings from President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Represented India at the inauguration of H.E. Mr Rodrigo Paz Pereira as President of Bolivia. Met President Paz Pereira and conveyed greetings from Hon’ble Rashtrapati Ji and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji. India remains committed to strengthening its partnership with Bolivia and working together on shared interests,” Margherita posted on X.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had congratulated President Pereira on his electoral victory, expressing hope for “shared progress and prosperity” between the two nations.
New Diplomatic Milestones
During his visit, Margherita inaugurated India House in La Paz, the official residence of the Indian Ambassador, calling it a “new chapter” in the growing India–Bolivia friendship.
He also inaugurated the new Chancery building of the Indian Embassy, describing it as “an important milestone in advancing India’s diplomatic engagement with Bolivia.”
People-to-People Engagement
Margherita’s engagements included an interaction with Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) alumni, where he lauded the positive impact of India’s training programmes on Bolivian professionals.
He also met members of the Indian community and Bolivian cultural groups devoted to Indian music, dance, and yoga. “Their goodwill and dedication, along with the vibrant initiatives of the Indian Embassy, strengthen our friendship and people-to-people ties,” he said.
Expanding Trade and Cultural Cooperation
The Minister met Bolivian business leaders to explore collaborations in minerals, textiles, tourism, and pharmaceuticals, encouraging them to visit India and invest in its dynamic markets.
He also launched celebrations of 150 years of the National Song ‘Vande Mataram’ at the Indian Embassy, attended by over 150 friends of India. The event featured vibrant performances by Bolivian youth celebrating Indian culture.
Shared Ideals and Initiatives
Margherita planted a sapling at Mallasa Park under Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign and offered floral tributes at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi.
He later met La Paz Mayor Ivan Arias at the historic Palacio Consistorial, discussing cooperation in yoga, culture, healthcare, urban planning, and the promotion of Gandhian philosophy.
