Experts Warn on Crisis

New Delhi: Amb. Veena Sikri, former High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, has described the West Asia situation as extremely serious, noting worsening humanitarian and economic impacts. She called for diplomatic resolution to prevent further escalation.

Amb. Sikri highlighted rising LNG and petrol prices, halted production in Qatar, and the risk of global economic repercussions. She praised ongoing diplomatic engagement, including US statements on potential conflict resolution.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar addressed the Rajya Sabha, detailing the conflict’s onset on February 28 and its cross-Gulf impacts. He confirmed Cabinet Committee on Security reviews under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, assessing regional stability, economic implications, and the safety of Indian nationals. Jaishankar reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy are the only paths to de-escalation.
