“Special and Unique”
Israel’s Ambassador to India H.E. Mr Rueven Azar underlines the six enduring pillars shaping the vibrant partnership between India and Israel
The India-Israel relationship rests on a remarkable convergence of civilisational strength, democratic ideals and strategic cooperation, according to Israel’s Ambassador to India, H.E. Mr Reuven Azar. In a video message shared on X, Ambassador Azar described the bilateral bond as “very special and very unique”, identifying six core values that anchor the flourishing partnership between the two nations.
He said both countries have demonstrated extraordinary civilisational resilience after centuries of foreign domination and attempts to erode their identities. Despite immense historical ordeals, India and Israel emerged as modern nations deeply connected to their ancient heritage and cultural roots.
The envoy further highlighted the joint fight against terrorism as a defining aspect of cooperation. Referring particularly to the threat posed by radical extremism, he said India and Israel have worked together for decades to strengthen capabilities aimed at combating terrorism and safeguarding national security.
He also emphasised the democratic ethos shared by both nations. Calling India the world’s greatest democracy, he said freedom of speech, entrepreneurship and individual liberty continue to deepen bilateral ties and reflect the free spirit embedded in both societies.
Innovation and competitiveness, he noted, form another important pillar of the relationship. India and Israel, he said, are working together to create a more prosperous and technologically advanced future through collaborative innovation and economic growth.
Ambassador Azar praised India’s long-standing tradition of religious tolerance, observing that Jews had always felt welcomed and secure in the country. He pointed out that India’s civilisational culture of coexistence and acceptance remains a powerful foundation of goodwill between the two peoples.
The final shared value, he said, is inclusive development. Both nations are striving to ensure that vulnerable and underprivileged communities are integrated into economic progress and national advancement. “We are ancient civilisations, and we have a very beautiful tradition of accepting the other,” he said.
The ambassador concluded by stating that Israel shares this unique combination of values only with India and stressed the importance of translating those ideals into deeper cooperation and meaningful partnerships.
