Bangkok: India and Thailand are exploring deeper cooperation in digital technologies, including efforts to combat online scams and integrate digital ecosystems to make travel easier for tourists.

H.E. Mr Puneet Agrawal, Ambassador of India to Thailand, discussed these issues with Mr Chaichanok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society of Thailand, during a meeting in Bangkok. The discussions covered implementation of the existing bilateral agreement on digital technologies, experience-sharing on combating online scams and the integration of digital ecosystems to facilitate tourists.

The engagement forms part of a wider effort to deepen the India-Thailand Strategic Partnership. Last month, Mr Agrawal met Mr Phipat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport of Thailand, to discuss maritime, air and road connectivity, as well as people-to-people and tourism linkages.

India and Thailand elevated their relationship to a Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangkok in April last year.

Mr Agrawal has also held discussions with Ms Urasa Mongkolnavin, Director-General, Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, covering high-level visits, trade and investment, people-to-people ties, public health and traditional medicine.

Separately, he met Mr Chutintorn Gongsakdi, Thailand Trade Representative, at Government House, where discussions focused on strengthening trade and investment, identifying complementarities, addressing tariff and non-tariff barriers and promoting balanced trade for mutual benefit.
