New Delhi: India has dispatched eight metric tonnes of life-saving and essential medicines to Bolivia to support the South American nation’s public healthcare capacity, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

Describing Bolivia as a Global South partner, the MEA said India remained ready to advance cooperation through solidarity and shared progress. The latest consignment adds to India’s health-sector engagement with Bolivia and broader cooperation between the two countries.

Bolivia’s Vice President Mr Edmand Lara Montano visited India in February and met Vice-President Mr C P Radhakrishnan on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi. Their discussions covered opportunities to expand cooperation in solar energy, critical minerals, digitalisation, higher education and the medical sector. They also exchanged views on collaboration in multilateral and other international forums.

India has previously extended medical assistance to Bolivia. According to the MEA, India donated 300,000 doses of measles and rubella vaccines, along with essential supplies required for their administration, to Bolivia in July last year.

India’s Ambassador to Bolivia, Mr Rohit Vadhwana, formally handed over the vaccine consignment at El Alto Airport in La Paz. The reception was attended by Foreign Minister Ms Celinda Sosa Lunda, Minister of Health and Sports Ms Maria Rene Castro Quisicanqui, and Vice Minister Mr Max Enriquez Nava.

The latest medicines consignment reinforces India’s continuing health cooperation with Bolivia.
