The 41st Meeting of the Board of Directors of the India–Sri Lanka Foundation was held in New Delhi on August 28, 2026, co-chaired by H.E. Mahishini Colonne, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to India, and H.E. Santosh Jha, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka. The meeting was attended by Board Members H.E. Prasad Kariyawasam, Mr. Mohan Kumar and Mr. Ashok Malik.

The Board reviewed ongoing projects and considered new proposals received by the Colombo Secretariat. Of more than 500 proposals, 137 were shortlisted following the vetting process, with 20 placed before the Board. The Board approved 13 projects amounting to approximately LKR 21 million (`61.1 lakh), covering education, culture, agriculture, and science and technology.

The Board also noted growing public interest in the Foundation's work. The New Delhi Secretariat received 149 proposals from Indian nationals, despite no formal Call for Proposals being issued before the meeting because of financial constraints. The Board said the unprecedented interest reflected continuing public interest in strengthening the close and enduring India–Sri Lanka relationship and creating greater opportunities for people-to-people engagement.

Established on December 28, 1998, through a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the then Foreign Ministers of India and Sri Lanka, Mr. Jaswant Singh and Mr. Lakshman Kadirgamar, the Foundation promotes economic, scientific, educational, technical and cultural cooperation, while fostering greater understanding between the peoples of both countries.

The Board emphasised that the Foundation's role has assumed greater importance amid the growing breadth and depth of India–Sri Lanka relations. It also highlighted the need to strengthen the Foundation's financial capacity, noting that an enhanced Corpus Fund would allow it to support more initiatives and expand exchanges and collaboration.
