New Delhi: US Ambassador to India H.E. Sergio Gor has described the proposed co-production of the Javelin All Up Round (AUR) in India as a major step forward for the US–India defence partnership, following a memorandum of understanding between Tata Advanced Systems Limited and the Javelin Joint Venture.

The venture, comprising Raytheon, an RTX business, and Lockheed Martin, selected Tata Advanced Systems as its prime partner for future in-country co-production following an evaluation of companies based on capability and expertise.

Under the MOU, the partners will explore establishing a facility in India for final assembly and integration of the Javelin AUR, alongside component-production capabilities. The initiative is expected to create opportunities for Indian industry, strengthen India’s manufacturing capabilities and contribute to regional stability in the Indo-Pacific.

H.E. Gor said the collaboration would also create opportunities for US companies while strengthening America’s defence-industrial base. Production will involve sub-assembly kits from Lockheed Martin’s facility in Troy, Alabama, and guidance electronics units from Raytheon’s facility in Tucson, Arizona, which will be shipped to India for final assembly and integration.

The initiative is also expected to support the development of a skilled defence workforce in India while sustaining American jobs across the domestic supply chain.

The announcement follows H.E. Gor’s August meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in New Delhi, where they discussed deepening US–India strategic cooperation. Gor said the partnership remains important to addressing global security challenges, noting that the two countries share many of the same goals.
