Bishkek / New Delhi: India and Kyrgyzstan are witnessing a renaissance in bilateral relations, with cooperation expanding across political, economic, investment, education, culture and tourism, Kyrgyzstan’s Tourism Minister Eduard Kubatov said in late August. He expressed confidence that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit will further deepen the partnership.

Mr Kubatov said Kyrgyzstan was grateful for the visit and eagerly looking forward to welcoming the Prime Minister for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. The country is preparing to host the historic summit marking the organisation’s 25th anniversary, with more than 20 heads of state and government expected to participate.

He said Mr Modi’s visit would have a broad agenda covering political and economic issues, tourism and other areas of cooperation. Describing India as a global partner, Mr Kubatov stressed that New Delhi’s role extends beyond bilateral ties with Bishkek to its wider importance for Central Asia.

Tourism is emerging as another important area of engagement, with the flow of Indian visitors to Kyrgyzstan increasing. Mr Kubatov identified improved air connectivity as a priority, calling for more direct flights beyond existing connections with Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.

Kyrgyzstan is also working to simplify visa procedures for Indian tourists and expand visa-free arrangements. Changing travel patterns amid tensions in the Middle East and Persian Gulf, he added, could create further opportunities for Central Asia and the CIS region to attract Indian travellers.
