TRADE TIES DEEPEN
New Delhi: The Fourth Meeting of the India–Argentina Joint Trade Committee in Buenos Aires reviewed progress on the roadmap agreed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 2025 visit and reaffirmed commitments to deepen strategic and economic ties, according to an official statement on August 29.
Investment opportunities across mining, energy and infrastructure featured prominently, with significant progress noted in KABIL’s lithium activities in Catamarca, the first lithium mining initiative by an Indian company in Argentina. Phase II drilling has been completed, while further opportunities in Salta and Jujuy are being explored.
Market access for Indian pharmaceuticals also advanced, with Argentina committing to work towards upgrading India from Annex II to Annex I under its pharmaceutical regulatory framework and reducing entry barriers. Both sides also agreed to build on the 2019 Memorandum of Understanding between Argentina’s ANMAT and India’s CDSCO through joint initiatives in Ayurveda and Yoga.
Bilateral trade crossed $6.5 billion in 2025, growing by more than 17 per cent annually, making India Argentina’s fifth-largest trading partner.
Technical discussions on sanitary and phytosanitary measures also progressed for Indian onions, milk and milk products, grapes, potatoes, bananas and pulses. Aviation, space technology, telecommunications and digital services, particularly 5G, artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure, were identified as further areas for cooperation.
