“As a party we’ll scale newer heights”

Mr Bhupender Yadav, National General Secretary of the BJP, spoke to India Empire Magazine’s Editor and Publisher Sayantan Chakravarty at the former’s residence on a range of issues concerning the world’s largest political party ...

As a political party that is now very much a part of the national consciousness and one that also has a large following overseas, what is the vision for the future?

Our vision is to make India a very strong and self-reliant nation. In 2014, our manifesto said that we want Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat and it was formally announced by PM Modi in October 2015. It is aimed at strengthening the unity and integrity of India. Also, in the first five years of the Narendra Modi Government we focused heavily on being a pro-poor administration. We are still focused on that. We want the poor in India to lead a dignified life with access to basic amenities such as electricity, cooking gas, health care. We introduced JAM—Jan Dhan-Aadhar-Mobile, the trinity of Government of India initiatives—to plug leakages in subsidies by using technology for better governance. We also firmly believe that democracy must be participatory. The core areas in which we have placed our trust are cooperative federalism, human values and participative democracy. In the last five years there has been more communication with the people of India than ever before. Prime Minister’s communication strategies with the people are well known. We have organized hundreds of programmes cutting across the classes in order to build a strong nation and create a vibrant political party. This is the democracy that we stand for, and believe in.
