NAFED is the apex federation of Marketing Cooperatives in the country providing remunerative prices to farmers for their produce and preventing their exploitation at the hands of private trade and middlemen. The federation has its presence in all States of India through network of branches/sub offices/member cooperatives, besides other infrastructure like pre cooling/cold storage units, general warehouses, grading packing units, onion storages, bio fertilizer plants, consumer marketing division and more. Because of its three tier structure, NAFED has its reach in the remotest of places in all States and Union Territories through the apex / State level cooperative federations and primary cooperative marketing societies which are its members. The vast reach and infrastructure is the main strength of NAFED apart from its expertise in procurement and marketing of agricultural commodities. NAFED is the only organization in India which has the experience and capability to procure, handle and market all agricultural commodities cultivated anywhere in the country and is a known brand name amongst the farmers. NAFED is governed by a Board of Directors. The Managing Director is the Chief Executive Officer. NAFED is also a member of the International Cooperative Alliance, Belgium.
