High Level Visits from Fiji to India

Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, visit to Fiji on 19 November 2014. The visit by Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, to Fiji on 19 November 2014 was a watershed moment not only for India-Fiji relations but also for India’s relations with all the Pacific Island Countries. The Visit by the Hon Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi was also transpired because Fiji has a rich Indian Diaspora about 1,400, mostly engaged in services like IT, management, finance, banking, educational, medical, hotel industry etc. Adding to this as, Fiji has roughly one-third of the total population of 884,887 of Indian Origin and the journey of Girmit (contract for indentured labourers) started in Fiji in 1879 and ended in 1920. Fiji Hindi is widely spoken. Minister for Human Resource Development, Shri Prakash Javadekar visited Fiji for Human Resource Collaboration. Minister of State for External Affairs Shri Vijay Kumar Singh visited Fiji for grant disbursement to SME sector in Fiji. Shri Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Home Affairs visited Fiji for Regional Hindi Conference dialogue.
