Modi, Ramgoolam Reconnect
Earlier in March, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had paid a two-day visit to Mauritius, further elevating the relationship between the two nations. Following that State Visit, PM Modi shared his gratitude publicly, stating on X, “I thank PM Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, the people and Government of Mauritius for the warmth.”
Prime Minister Modi was the Chief Guest at Mauritius’ National Day for the second time—the first being in 2015—highlighting the significance of the India-Mauritius bond. During the celebrations, President of Mauritius Dharambeer Gokhool conferred on PM Modi the ‘Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean’ (G.C.S.K), the island nation’s highest civilian honour.
This marked the first time an Indian leader had received this prestigious recognition, underscoring the depth and warmth of the bilateral relationship.
