Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten have agreed to elevate India-Netherlands ties to a Strategic Partnership supported by a five-year roadmap covering trade, technology, innovation and people-to-people cooperation. The discussions took place during Modi’s visit to the Netherlands, which focused on expanding bilateral engagement across several strategic sectors.

Addressing members of the Indian community in The Hague, Modi praised the Indian diaspora and the Surinami-Hindustani community for preserving deep civilisational and cultural links with India across generations. He described the diaspora as a “living bridge” connecting the two countries and acknowledged its contribution to Dutch society and bilateral goodwill.

The Prime Minister highlighted growing cooperation in semiconductors, renewable energy, digital innovation, maritime security, education and advanced technology sectors. He also noted the importance of sports and cultural exchanges in strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries.

During the visit, Modi announced that 11th century Chola Copper Plates preserved in the Netherlands would soon be repatriated to India, calling the move an important cultural milestone. He said the evolving India-Netherlands relationship reflects a shared commitment to innovation, democratic values and future-oriented economic cooperation.
