Moscow Reaffirms Enduring Partnership

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar’s meeting with Russian President Mr Vladimir Putin reaffirmed the depth of India–Russia ties, while discussions on trade, energy, fertilizers, nuclear cooperation and high technology highlighted the expanding economic dimensions of a partnership shaped by decades of political trust.

Dr Jaishankar said Prime Minister Mr Modi was looking forward to meeting Mr Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit and subsequently welcoming him to India for the BRICS Summit. He described the economic relationship as having grown significantly and characterised the broader bilateral partnership as strong and robust.

The latest engagement therefore combines historical continuity with a distinctly contemporary economic agenda. A partnership built over decades is now being tested and expanded across trade, energy security, fertilizers, nuclear cooperation and high technology, while both governments work to address the imbalances that have accompanied the rapid growth in bilateral commerce. The emphasis is increasingly on making the relationship broader, more balanced and more commercially sustainable.
