“We have to develop the three pillars in our relationship”
We need to develop each of the three pillars. The first is agriculture. We’ve very good quality of agriculture in terms of what we export. We’ve got technology in terms of soil preservation, and we can look at areas where we think we can establish further cooperation channels with India. For India, it should take the nation closer to the objective of food security. Also there is technology not just in terms of machinery, but also biotechnology, production technology, and export management. In India you are losing a lot of crops, majorly due to lack of storage and management facilities. In this we have the experience, and we can deepen cooperation on the ground. It is also true that large numbers of Indians are getting added to the middle class as the economy provides more opportunities. The requirement for proteins, thereby, goes up. In India there is a limitation of land. So the only possibility is to build productivity to meet that growing requirement. When productivity increases, you need more water. Water tables across the country, however, are shrinking. So we can work in that area as well.
