Terrorism condemned as Indian-origin leaders speak out

  • Indian-origin Norwegian leader Himanshu Gulati calls the Pahalgam attack “an assault on humanity itself”

Oslo: In a strong message of solidarity, Indian-origin Norwegian MP Himanshu Gulati condemned the terror attack in Pahalgam, describing it as an outright “attack on humanity”. Speaking through a video message, Gulati expressed deep sorrow and called for unified international action against terrorism. “It is with great shock and sadness that we have witnessed the brutal attack in Pahalgam. I offer my condolences to the victims and to the people of India,” said Gulati, whose parents migrated to Norway in the 1970s.

Highlighting the religious targeting of civilians, Gulati said, “We saw civilians being brutally killed because of their religion.” He drew parallels to Norway’s own experiences with terrorism, recalling atrocities perpetrated by groups such as ISIS and Al Qaeda.

“In my own country, Norway, we have been victims of terrorism. The world has seen the evil and inhumanity of groups like ISIS, Al Qaeda, and now organisations like those behind this brutal terror attack in India,” he stated.

The Pahalgam attack, which tragically claimed 26 lives, was termed by Gulati as a grave assault on the very principles of humanity. He reaffirmed the need for a united global front, saying, “We, as the international community and the civilised world, must stand together against terrorism and fight these evil forces.”

Meanwhile, earlier in April, Indian-origin protesters in London assembled to voice their outrage against the Pahalgam attack. Across from them, Pakistan supporters gathered outside their country’s High Commission, raising anti-India slogans.

Tensions escalated when a senior Pakistan Army official, in a provocative act, was filmed making a throat-slitting gesture towards the peaceful Indian demonstrators. The video, which went viral on Saturday morning, drew widespread condemnation across social media, where users labelled the act “sick,” “disgusting,” and “a disturbing reminder of the lack of professionalism among Pakistan’s military and diplomatic representatives.”

In a further inflammatory move, the official was seen mocking Indian Air Force Group Captain Abhinandan Varthaman, brandishing a poster of the officer, whose capture and subsequent release by Pakistan in 2019 remain a poignant chapter in India-Pakistan relations.
