The Hindu Canadian Foundation hails the renewed India-Canada friendship after PM Modi’s constructive meeting with PM Carney at the G7 Summit
Ottawa: The Hindu Canadian Foundation (HCF) has expressed strong support for the recent positive developments in India-Canada relations following the bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada.
“This is a great step toward a brighter future, rooted in shared values, mutual respect, and a shared vision for global progress. Canada and India share a profound connection, built on common democratic principles, vibrant cultural exchanges, and dynamic economic partnerships,” said the HCF in a statement posted on X.
The foundation lauded PM Carney’s leadership under the “Canada First” approach, describing it as bold and pragmatic. “His commitment to prioritizing our nation’s interests is unwavering, ensuring that our policies and partnerships reflect what is best for Canadians,” the post read.
HCF also highlighted the importance of standing firm against extremist influences seeking to import foreign conflicts into Canada’s peaceful and inclusive society. “The people of Canada should focus on fostering unity, progress, and global cooperation,” it said.
On the sidelines of the G7 Summit, the bilateral meeting between PM Modi and PM Carney was described as pivotal in revitalizing the somewhat strained ties between the two nations.
A statement from the Canadian Prime Minister’s office emphasized the leaders’ reaffirmation of the Canada-India relationship based on mutual respect, the rule of law, and the principle of sovereignty and territorial integrity. Both leaders agreed to appoint new high commissioners to restore regular diplomatic services to citizens and businesses in both countries.
They also discussed the historic ties between their peoples, partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region, and growing commercial links, including economic growth, supply chains, and energy transition collaboration.
India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri described the meeting as “very positive and constructive,” noting that both leaders agreed on “calibrated steps” to restore stability and momentum in bilateral relations.
After the meeting, PM Modi posted on X: “Had an excellent meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney. Complimented him and the Canadian Government for successfully hosting the G7 Summit. India and Canada are connected by a strong belief in democracy, freedom and rule of law. PM Carney and I look forward to working closely to add momentum to the India-Canada friendship. Areas like trade, energy, space, clean energy, critical minerals, fertilisers and more offer immense potential in this regard.”
