Hardeep Puri leads key dialogue with Norwegian experts to boost India’s deep-sea oil, gas and carbon capture capacity.

New Delhi: Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri led a high-level Indian delegation in Bergen, Norway in July to explore new opportunities in offshore energy and deep-sea hydrocarbon exploration.

The talks, held with representatives of Norway’s Offshore Energy Cluster, covered advanced technologies in drilling, subsea operations, HPHT wells, and carbon capture and storage (CCS). Leading firms such as Technip FMC, DNV Group, Reach Subsea, and Equinor participated, along with Norway’s Energy Minister Jostein Dahl Karlsen.

“We are working to establish a complete deepwater exploration ecosystem in India, aligned with our global energy vision under Prime Minister Modi,” Puri stated. He highlighted India’s ongoing OALP Round 10, one of the world’s largest offshore exploration rounds, covering over 2.5 lakh sq km.

Earlier, Puri toured the Northern Lights CO2 Terminal, Europe’s largest government-backed carbon storage project. He lauded its scalable infrastructure and open-source model, saying it offers a compelling blueprint for India’s own energy transition.

India views Norway’s experience in offshore energy, CCS, and renewables as highly complementary to its goals of ensuring energy security while advancing toward carbon neutrality.
