Nagaland captivated international audiences at Bharat Utsav 2025 in Moscow, showcasing its rich cultural heritage and entrepreneurial spirit on a global platform.

Kohima: Nagaland showcased its economic and cultural potential at the ‘Bharat Utsav 2025’, held at the historic Manezhnaya Square in Moscow, officials said in July. A senior Nagaland government official stated that delegates from the Department of Industries and Commerce, along with local entrepreneurs, represented the state at the event held from July 5 to 13 in the Russian capital.

“The state’s presence brought Nagaland into both national and international focus,” the official told the media, noting that Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio served as chief guest at the closing ceremony of the event, which was organised by the Indian Embassy in Moscow with support from the Moscow City government.

This cultural diplomacy effort served as a global platform to promote India’s artistic heritage and entrepreneurial drive, he added. The Chief Minister’s formal inauguration of the Nagaland stall added gravitas to the occasion and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to advancing indigenous industries and empowering local entrepreneurs on the international stage.

Curated by the Department of Industries and Commerce, Nagaland’s showcase featured a handpicked group of entrepreneurs and producers. Many of these participants were engaging with global audiences for the first time, receiving exceptional exposure and insight into international markets.

The strong international footfall and high interest in Nagaland’s exhibit gave entrepreneurs a rare opportunity to understand global consumer preferences and market dynamics, the official said. An official statement noted that the displayed items reflected Nagaland’s unique craftsmanship and cultural identity — from intricately woven textiles to meticulously crafted handicrafts.

Featured products included bamboo mugs, mini bamboo cups, trays, wooden plates, pen stands, bamboo earrings, wood pendants, masks, echo boxes, coconut spoons, fridge magnets, extension cords, paper pencils, bamboo pens, platters, and salt containers.

The stall also showcased cushion covers, silk shawls, Nagaland-grown coffee, honey, purses, and table runners — all emblematic of the region’s heritage and artisanal skills. Every item on display was sold out by the festival’s end, underscoring strong consumer interest and commercial potential.

This exposure is not merely symbolic, but represents a strategic breakthrough for the Department of Industries and Commerce in its mission to generate sustainable livelihoods, uplift local artisans, and build globally competitive entrepreneurial ecosystems.

By facilitating direct global engagement for local businesses, the Department is accelerating export-readiness, design innovation, and scalability for indigenous enterprises. Calling this a historic step, the Department pledged to continue this momentum by forging new partnerships, expanding market access, and investing in the creativity and resilience of Nagaland’s entrepreneurial community.
