Partners In Perspective
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s Moscow visit highlights India’s enduring special partnership with Russia.
Moscow: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held an interaction with noted Russian scholars and think tank leaders, exploring India–Russia relations, global geopolitics, and New Delhi’s viewpoint during his official visit.
“Pleased to interact with eminent scholars and leading think tanks in Russia. Discussed India–Russia ties, today’s global geopolitics, and India’s perspective,” Jaishankar shared on X.
He also honoured fallen Soviet soldiers, laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexander Garden, a Moscow war memorial dedicated to those who perished in World War II.
The EAM is co-chairing the 26th Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC), an institutional mechanism designed to drive cooperation.
The visit comes on the invitation of Denis Manturov, Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister. The Ministry of External Affairs emphasised its strategic importance: “The visit aims to further consolidate the longstanding and time-tested Indiaa–Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.”
Jaishankar will also confer with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, continuing the rhythm of high-level diplomatic engagements, after recent meetings at the SCO and BRICS summits.
Earlier this year, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri travelled to Moscow for consultations with Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko, maintaining diplomatic momentum. Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit India later this year on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation.
