Deeper Ties, Shared Destiny
India and Mauritius have elevated their long-standing friendship into a forward-looking strategic partnership rooted in shared values, vision, and destiny.
Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam reaffirmed the deep and historic bonds between their nations, underscoring that India and Mauritius are not just partners, but family. Both leaders held delegation-level talks in Varanasi in September, comprehensively reviewing the Enhanced Strategic Partnership and identifying new avenues of cooperation across infrastructure, health, education, renewable energy, maritime security and research.
Welcoming his counterpart to his parliamentary constituency, Prime Minister Modi said, “For centuries, Kashi has been a symbol of India’s civilisation and culture. Our traditions reached Mauritius long ago and today, when we welcome friends from Mauritius in Kashi, it is not just a formality but a spiritual union. India and Mauritius are two nations, but their dreams and destiny are one.”
Ramgoolam lauded India’s continuous support across key sectors of national development, from health and education to capacity building and maritime security. “Over the years, India through its various governments has accompanied Mauritius in its journey toward progress and development. We have benefited from India’s generous assistance and timely support which continues to make a tangible difference in the lives of Mauritians,” he said.
Both leaders announced a Special Economic Package that will support infrastructure, healthcare, education and employment. Projects include the AYUSH Centre of Excellence, a 500-bed facility at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam National Hospital, a Veterinary School, airport expansion and new highways. The first Jan Aushadhi Kendra outside India has also been established in Mauritius.
