India advances sustainable development in Mauritius with new floating solar power projects and clean energy collaboration.

India’s High Commissioner to Mauritius, Anurag Srivastava, along with Mauritius Minister of Energy and Public Utilities Patrick Gervais Assirvaden, visited the proposed 17.5 MW floating solar project site at Tamarind Falls. The project is a result of Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam’s recent visit to India, reflecting the importance India places on Mauritius’s development needs.

The delegation included officials from Mauritius’s Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities and the Central Electricity Board. Srivastava noted that energy partnership is a key part of the enhanced strategic ties between the two countries.

They also visited the 8 MW Solar Power Plant at Henrietta, established with Indian support in 2023, which currently supplies green energy to Mauritius’s grid.

The Indian High Commission posted on X, “This project is a reflection of our shared commitment towards a clean energy transition to safeguard the future of our planet.”

In September, Mauritius PM Ramgoolam praised India’s assistance in sectors like health, education, and capacity building during his visit to India.

PM Modi called Mauritius a key part of India’s Neighbourhood First policy and the MAHASAGAR vision. India is supporting Mauritius’s energy transition by supplying 100 electric buses, of which 10 have already been delivered.

The Comprehensive Partnership Agreement in energy will further strengthen cooperation, including the floating solar plant at Tamarind Falls.
