Strengthening Bilateral Ties
India hosted the Cyprus parliamentary delegation to reinforce cooperation and democratic dialogue.
New Delhi: The visiting parliamentary delegation from Cyprus led by House of Representatives President Annita Demetriou called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on November 26. During the meeting, President Murmu expressed confidence that ties between India and Cyprus would continue to strengthen across all sectors of cooperation.
“A parliamentary delegation from Cyprus, led by Ms Annita Demetriou, President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The President said that Constitution Day is an ideal occasion to share our democratic and parliamentary experiences with a good friend and partner like Cyprus. She expressed confidence that India-Cyprus ties would continue to strengthen across all sectors of cooperation,” the President’s Secretariat posted on X.
Rashtrapati Bhavan Meeting
On November 25, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar held talks with the visiting Cyprus parliamentary delegation, expressing confidence that Cyprus’ upcoming European Union Presidency will help further strengthen ties between India and the bloc.
Parliamentary Discussions in Focus
The Cyprus parliamentary delegation also met Vice President C P Radhakrishnan on Tuesday, discussing bilateral relations and the importance of continuing parliamentary exchanges. “Discussions highlighted the long-standing bilateral relationship between India and Cyprus and the importance of continued parliamentary exchanges to deepen ties between the two nations,” the Vice President’s Office stated.
On October 30, EAM S Jaishankar and his Cyprus counterpart Constantinos Kombos reviewed the India-Cyprus Joint Action Plan 2025-2029, covering global geopolitical developments and multilateral cooperation. The Action Plan outlines short, medium, and long-term goals in defence, trade, business, innovation, and technology sectors.
