STRATEGIC TIES STRENGTHENED
India and Kyrgyzstan reaffirm cooperation and shared security priorities.
Bishkek: India and Kyrgyzstan strengthened their strategic engagement as Ambassador Birender Singh Yadav met Kyrgyzstan’s Foreign Minister Zheenbek Kulubaev in Bishkek on December 1, reaffirming cooperation across key sectors.
In a post shared on X, the Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the two sides discussed expanding Kyrgyzstan-India cooperation, noting steady gains consistent with the Strategic Partnership between the two nations.
In October, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held talks in Bishkek with Lt General Baktybek Bekbolotov, Secretary of the Security Council of Kyrgyzstan, where both committed to intensifying collaboration against terrorism, radicalisation and drug trafficking. They also reviewed defence ties and exchanged views on regional security challenges.
“We agreed to reinforce efforts against terrorism and extremism and deepen defence cooperation,” a post by the Indian Embassy on X said. Both sides emphasised harmonising positions on issues of shared concern at regional and multilateral forums.
Shared Interests, Stronger Partnership
India and Kyrgyzstan’s warm political ties stem from deep-rooted historical and civilisational links, strengthened by shared priorities in regional peace and economic progress. Kyrgyzstan played a key role in supporting India’s full membership of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and has consistently backed India’s bid for a permanent UNSC seat.
Expanding Engagement
The partnership now spans defence, security, trade, investment and capacity-building initiatives. Both nations continue to address common threats posed by terrorism, extremism and drug-trafficking. According to the Indian Embassy, cooperation has steadily widened, demonstrating mutual commitment to a secure and prosperous Central Asian region.
