India Canada Cooperation
India and Canada reinforced their partnership as High Commissioner Dinesh K. Patnaik engaged top officials to advance security, investment, and Indigenous ties.
Indian High Commissioner to Canada, Dinesh K. Patnaik, met Canadian Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree to strengthen law enforcement and security cooperation. The dialogue underscored shared priorities and explored new avenues for collaboration, reflecting improving bilateral relations and the ongoing commitment to secure, resilient communities.
Provincial Engagement in British Columbia
Earlier, Patnaik visited the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia to boost provincial partnerships. He met leaders including Speaker Raj Chouhan, Minister of Forests Ravi Parmar, and Parliamentary Secretary Sunita Dhir. Talks also involved Ministers Ravi Kahlon and Jagrup Brar, focusing on two-way investments, energy, mining, critical minerals, life sciences, quantum technologies, and gold exports.
Historic Indigenous Outreach
Patnaik and his wife Poonam Patnaik visited Treaty 7 land on November 24, marking the first-ever visit by an Indian High Commissioner. The engagement opened a new chapter in collaboration with Indigenous Nations, exploring shared histories, culture, heritage, and future opportunities between Canadian Indigenous communities and India.
The High Commissioner conveyed India’s deep respect for Indigenous Nations, recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s admiration for Treaty 7 hospitality during his June 2025 meeting with Indigenous Chiefs.
Through these engagements, India and Canada advanced dialogue on security, investment, and cultural bridges, signalling a commitment to deepen trust, collaborative opportunities, and long-term partnerships at federal, provincial, and Indigenous levels.
